About Us
The Careers & Experience department at Western is comprised of three units that support students in unique and interdependent ways:
The Career Education unit embeds career conversations in Western’s campus culture to help students better understand who they are and who they want to become. By accessing a curated collection of career development resources (e.g., appointments, online modules, workshops, drop-in support), students are empowered to explore options and make career decisions throughout their life.
The Employer Relations unit develops partnerships between industry and institution that result in meaningful career and work integrated learning opportunities for Western students. Through the delivery of employer engagement events (e.g., fairs, information sessions), recruiting services (e.g., job postings, interviews), and the institution’s signature hirewesternu campaign, employers can access a diverse pool of candidates to build their talent pipeline.
The Experiential Learning unit partners with community, industry, faculty, staff, and students to create and facilitate curricular and co-curricular experiences that connect theory and practice. Through participation in transformative experiences with strong reflective practice, such as community engaged learning (e.g., global and local community experiences), work integrated learning (e.g., internship, practicum), and curricular experiential learning (e.g., field study, simulation), students develop transferable skills, clarify interests, and strengthen career engagement and social responsibility.
Mission
Our mission is to help students deepen their academic learning and actively plan for personal and professional growth through career education, experiential learning, and industry exploration. We foster an environment in which students are able to discover their potential and design their future.
Vision
Our vision is for all Western graduates to have the skills and confidence to thoughtfully engage in communities, and build a meaningful life and career.
